End Of Year Review 2010

As 2010 comes to an end I thought I would post my results on I-Poker and those that relate the Maui Jackpot games:

UsernameGames PlayedAv. ProfitAv. StakeAv. ROITotal ProfitFormAbility /100NetworkFilter
Kartajana         846$0.58  $5  10%$494  -N/AiPokerYear2010 S5-5 Jackpot SNG Only
Kartajana         1,172$0.71  $8  8%$827  -N/AiPokerYear2010 SNG Only

Overall, it was a tough poker year for me with overall profits way down on 2009. I also experienced my first losing month in five years. Not something I want to repeat. I certainly need to improve to achieve my Maui challenge but I believe by playing them more exclusively I will benefit. I also feel I can improve as I am tackling/removing the main reasons for my reduced profits:
1.Did not play as much in 2010 due to moving house and related issues (not moving again).
2.Lack of physical fitness/well being after quitting the gym end 2009 (exercise bike for Christmas).
3.Played too much variety trying new games: played a lot of double or nothing SNGs early year and tried some new sites. (Playing full table sit n gos on Betfred, Pokerstars and Full Tilt only focusing 80% of my effort on the Maui Challenge).
4.Playing too many games against poker forum players who are generally above average -good fun but not very profitable. The only way to make money playing poker is to play against players who are worse than you. (Playing the once a week max only this year).
5.Other players are generally improving I believe. (Got to move my game up faster which is why I am specialising).
6.Affected more than normal by variance as I was having a poor year. (Will not be focusing on or expecting bad luck).
7.I was guilty of over analysing my game and making too many lists. (Oh well......)

Good luck at the tables in 2011. Happy New Year.

Background & Rules

I have been playing poker for five years now and have built up a bankroll of $17000 playing mainly sit n gos on Betfred(I-Poker), Pokerstars, Full Tilt and Cake. I am a good player but imperfect, affected by variance and playing out of habit sometimes rather than fully focused. This blog is to help with my focus. I play around 10-15 hours a week usually in the hour or two before I go to bed and tend to have no more than six tables on the go at once. I make around $4/$5 an hour which I will need to improve upon a little to complete my challenge.

The I-Poker Jackpot games are great fun and full of poor players looking for a big win. This helps to compensate for the double fees (which covers the jackpot and consolation bonuses). Here are the official rules:

Betfred Poker will pay a $15,000 Jackpot Prize + progressive amount (if applicable) to the winner of five consecutive $5 + $1 “Maui – Jackpot Sit ‘N’ Go” tournaments. Betfred Poker will also award a $200 prize to a player who finished in either 1st or 2nd place in five consecutive –“Maui Jackpot Sit ‘N’ Go” tournaments.

The plan would be for me to win five of the Jackpot consolation bonuses($1000) along the way. I have won three before. Given that, I need to generate $1 per game to hit my target. The big win is a more difficult challenge!
